SAP Control opens communication on ports 5xx13 for unencrypted channels or 5xx14 when using TLS/SSL. In the case of CCMS sensors or any other action performed by the SAP User, the standard SAP communication Ports (33xx) needs to be opened. In all the cases mentioned, "xx" is the querried system number.
The PRTG custom sensor functionality is based on local executables, thus the Plugin needs to be installed on core and on each of the probes.
The SAP SID (SAP System Identifier) is a three-character value (eg. "DY1"), used for identifying the SAP system. Each SAP system can have more SAP instances, identified by a two-digit numeric value (00-99), also called the system number. This value identifies the SAP instance on a server, thus it has to be unique on one server. The instance number also defines which ports are used by default for communication.
The Client ID is a three-digit numeric value (000-999) which indicates the SAP client. For example, client 000 is commonly used for system administration, and a client-number <> 000 is usually a customer client (f.e. 100). The Client ID is uniqe within one SAP SID. The Client ID is only necessary when you connect to SAP with the SAP User-ID, so you need it for CCMS access, or when calling BADI functions. The SAP User-ID is unique within one Client-ID.
The SAP User is needed for CCMS access, or when calling BADI functions. It's not required when SAPControl functions are called, because in this case an operating system user is needed, which is completely independend from the SAP User. It belongs to the Operating System on which SAP is installed.
